How to Migrate from EWS Switch to ezMasterTM

The first step is to ensure that the ezMasterTM has proper
connectivity to manage EWS devices. In order ensure it does then run the
Connectivity Test within ezMasterTM.

To test the WAN as well as the ezRegisterTM server
connectivity, run the Connectivity Test within ezMasterTM. To
access this test first click the Global Settings in the upper banner. Then
under the list in the left hand column under Diagnostic click Connectivity
Test.

Next, press the Test button to run the connectivity test.

After clicking the Test button, the test will run.

The results of the test will display after about 1-2 minutes. If
successful, all parameters will have green check marks. If there is an
error, the error will display.

The following outbound ports at the network site must be open to
ensure complete ezMasterTM connectivity:

  • TCP 80: HTTP Port, ezReg Communication
  • UDP 53: DNS Port, ezReg Communication

The following inbound ports at the network site should be open to
ensure complete ezMasterTM connectivity:

  • UDP 1234
  • TCP 80
  • UDP 53
  • TCP 80 (default):HTTP Port, Captive Portal, this can be defined by user

The following outbound and inbound ports MUST be opened in the
firewall at the site where the ezMasterTM server is located in
order for the remote access points to communicate with the ezMasterTM
server:

  • UDP 1234: Customer port, CAPWAP port
  • TCP 80 (default):HTTP Port, Captive Portal, this can be defined by user

After ensuring that the ezMasterTM connectivity test passes
then you can start adding EWS access points and switches to be managed by
the ezMasterTM Server.  The ezMasterTM server
can be either local (i.e. on the LAN) or remote (on the internet in the
“cloud”).

There are two ways to bring existing EWS APs into the ezMasterTM
server for management. The first one is an automatic process known as
“Migration to ezMasterTM” and the other is
manual. For Migration to ezmasterTM , ensure that the
ezMasterTM firmware version is v0.12.8 or later before
attempting to migrate. Similarly, ensure that the EWS switch firmware
version is v1.05.42-c.1.8.55 or later before attempting to migrate.

Migration to ezMasterTM is found under
Controller>Maintenance>Migration to ezMaster

Here, specify the Project name (i.e. the name of the network site). This
is the name of the network that will be used in the ezMasterTM
server. Next, enter the WAN IP address of the ezMasterTM server
and the port number. Also enter the username and password for the
ezMasterTM server.

The EWS switch will indicate progress during the migration process. Press
the continue button after each step is completed.

After the process of migration is complete you should get a message
similar to the one shown below.

The project is now listed in the ezMasterTM server and ready to
be managed.

The ezMasterTM migration is complete. All groups and
AP’s in the groups will be maintained in the project that is
migrated from the EWS switch when using ezMasterTM migration
from within the EWS switch.

The manual way of importing EWS switches and EWS APs into ezMasterTM
w/o using the ezMasterTM migration feature in the EWS
switch.  First, disable the management feature on the EWS switch and
input the IP address of the ezMasterTM server that is going to
manage the EWS devices.

This was done locally, so the devices populated the list of pending
devices to add without needing to add the devices to the ezMasterTM
server inventory list. If the ezMasterTM server is remote, the
extra step of adding the devices to the ezMasterTM server will
need to be completed before creating a project on the ezMasterTM
server. Steps on how to preform those steps are found later in this
document.

Next create a Project for the EWS devices on the ezMasterTM
server.

After creating the project in ezMasterTM , than you will be
redirected to the Device Config section to add any devices found locally
to the current Project

Below is the page to add devices to the Project that will be managed by
ezMasterTM

The same page can be located if you select Project>Manage>Projects,
then click the icon on the project you wish to manage. Then Devices which
is found in the left hand column.

Check the boxes to the left of the devices you want to add to the Project,
then click add.

After adding the devices the following message should display to inform of
successfully adding the device or devices to the current project.

If AP Group(s) are needed in the project, then the AP Group(s) can be
added under the Device Management>AP Groups. This menu item is only
avaiable after selecting an individual project.

If the EzMasterTM server is remote, then before the EWS devices
will be available to be placed in a project on the EzMasterTM
server, the EWS devices will have to be added to the EzMasterTM
inventory. The Device inventory for the EzMasterTM server is
located under Device Inventory, this is where the list of devices the
EzMasterTM server is managing will be listed.  In order to
add EWS devices into the EzMasterTM server click the Add Device
button to go to the Device Registration section of the EzMasterTM
server.

Under Device Registration, add the MAC address, check code, and
description of the EWS devices that are going to be added to the
EzMasterTM server using the syntax shown below. After the EWS
devices have been added, click the Register button.

If correctly added, the following message should be displayed and the EWS
devices should now be under the Device Inventory list. Note that, it might
take up to ten minutes for the EWS device to populate under the Device
Inventory section.

On an EWS switch, the following information can be found on all the EWS
APs it currently manages under the Maintenance>Check codes menu item.
Just click the Generate button, so that list can be copied and pasted into
the Device Inventory section of ezMasterTM.
